Where To Drink Natural Wine In Berlin:
A City Clinging To, And Evolving From Its Past

German beer bars and spätis (beer convenience stores) still dominate Berlin’s cityscape, however, wine culture is quickly catching up. Today, in nearly every neighborhood, you can find a small, quintessentially Berlin-hip, wine bar with its own personality.

After you’ve tasted your way through Berlin, or learned about it on the fantastic Third Reich and Cold War Walking Tour, stop by one of the following wine bars to see another side of this amazing city.  If you’re visiting for longer and have more time, we also recommend doing a half-day Discover Berlin Tour

Some specialize in wines from specific European countries, while others cover a more global footprint. If you’re into low-intervention, natural wines, keep reading for Berlin’s top natural wine bars that are definitely worth checking out.

Where To Stay In Berlin?

If you’re looking for great places to stay while in Berlin, you can choose from a few central neighborhoods.

MORE Natural Wine Shop

After taking the internet by storm, the dynamic duo behind morenaturalwine.com have opened a wine shop in Berlin. Owners Chris and Anika are now sharing their vast, and always interesting, selection of natural wines with the Neukölln community.

Not only do they offer top wines from partner importers, they also personally bring in rare wines that can’t be found elsewhere in Germany. These range from Australian wines, to US cult favorites, UK sparklers, and of course gems from nearby Austria, France, Spain, and more.

In addition to selling great wines, they also have unique wine artwork done by Anika herself. Check out some in our photos.  But really, you have to stop by to see her talent yourself.

Ultimately, what makes MORE Natural Wine standout, is their passion and enthusiasm for these winemakers and the delicious wines they produce. Their research and knowledge is glowingly evident when you walk in the door or visit the online shop, they really know their stuff.

Check them out in Berlin, or online, where they have recently launched a wine club as well. Follow them on Instagram for the latest news, events, and producer videos. They also launched a YouTube channel.

Drunk By Nature at Markthalle Neun

For a casual day or night imbibing, head to Drunk By Nature wine shop and bar located within Markthalle Neun in mega-cool Kreuzberg. This natural-wine-only bar opened in late 2019 as a spin-off of Schoner Trinken, who have 4 other wine shops in Berlin, one also in the Markthalle.  At Drunk By Nature, you can find unique, small production German wines as well as many great bottles from around the world. Pair your wine with something tasty to eat from one of the many artisanal food stalls within the market, and enjoy a leisurely lunch or dinner at one of the many communal tables.

Markthalle Neun is a family friendly destination and great for groups too.  It will of course will be more crowded on the weekends and Thursday nights, when they host a weekly street food market from 5pm -10pm – which I recommend checking out.  Neun has also been home to Berlin’s Raw Wine fair for the past two years.  For more, head to my Raw Wine Berlin review.

Berlin, and Germany as a whole really take pride in their beer. This means that you can find both high quality beers and cheap basic beers, nearly everywhere. What’s most interestingly lately though, is that small cafes and beer gardens are also now serving natural wine from Germany, Austria and elsewhere. Jules is one of those cool places.

If you visit Jules (and neighboring BRLO Brewery) on Friday nights during Bite Club, you’ll be treated to a DJ and wide range of gourmet street club from the many food trucks on-site.

If you can’t make it to their Biergarten location, pay a visit to their cafes at KaDeWe or Geisberg.

Naturales Weinbar

2021 Update: Naturales is no longer in its original home. Instead, they are doing pop-up wine bars and events around Berlin. Follow them @naturaleswinebar for the latest.

One of the first wine bars I visited in Berlin years ago, Naturales Weinbar still remains my favorite.  The vibe is decidedly more Mediterranean than German, thanks its Spanish owners, and the wines are always exciting and natural.  Situated in northern Neukölln, you can sit outside in warmer months and soak up the local culture of the fun canal-front neighborhood.

Naturales’ wine menu itself is equally cool, displaying simple graphics to explain each wine’s origin story.  This small bar also makes delicious Spanish tapas that change daily.  Naturales’ food and wine paired with fantastic music (sometimes live DJs), is a winning combination any night of the week.  I cannot recommend Naturales highly enough!

Vin Acqua Vin

Located in Reuterkiez, one of Berlin’s most central and popular areas, Vin Acqua Vin is a quaint wine bar, shop and restaurant to suit all of your needs.  The helpful staff are welcoming and very informative, happy to explain their array of offerings, whether you grab a seat at the bar or at one of their rustic tables. Unlike many wine bars, they also serve cocktails and have a full menu, which makes it a perfect place for meeting up with groups with varied preferences. They even have their own house Gin, for those interested, like myself.

Vin Acqua Vin has both conventional and natural wines, which are denoted on the menu, but you can also just ask your server what you are looking for! The wine shop is also one of the most well-stocked and well-priced in Berlin.  I found great natural Italian wines at incredible prices, as well as unique offerings from throughout Europe.  Head to Vin Acqua Vin any day of the week for a glass, bite to eat or bottle, you won’t be disappointed!

Noble Rot Weinbar

If you’re interested in a crash course on Hungarian and German wines, look no further than Noble Rot in the Friedrichshain neighborhood in eastern Berlin.  The friendly owners are obsessed with finding the best small and large producers making great classic and modern examples of wine from their favorite two countries.

All biological or natural wines are noted on the menu, but do ask the staff for their help as well.  The space is beautiful and well-suited for a party or intimate gathering.  In addition to top wines, you can also order from their small plate menu.

Noble Rot is perfect stop on a fun night out, as it’s surrounded by many international restaurants ranging from Vietnamese to Indian, Thai, Russian and everything in between.

If you haven’t tried Georgian food yet, you are truly missing out on one of the world’s best cuisines.  In addition to delicious and diverse dishes, Georgia is home to incredible and unique wines.  With 8 thousand years of practice, Georgian winemakers have figured out how to make beautiful, long macerated, qvevri wines, as well as lighter bodied styles to please all wine drinkers.  To better understand Georgia’s wine traditions, I highly recommend visiting the country and attending the Zero Compromise wine fair.  If you can’t make the trip, please head to my Georgia post to learn all about Georgian wine and the country’s fascinating history.

More conveniently situated in Berlin, locals and tourists can enjoy authentic, traditional Georgian food and the best selection of Georgian natural wines at Der blaue Fuchs in Prenzlauer Berg. Newly opened in 2019, this wine-focused restaurant features small production, all-natural, native varietal wines that pair excellently with their mouth-watering food.  You can drink orange wines from Jakeli, Gotsa, Zurab Topuridze, and Baia’s Wine, just to name a few on their excellent wine list. Share a Khachapuri (cheese bread) and order of dumplings, before diving into the array of main dishes. You really can’t go wrong, no matter what you order! Having visited Georgia myself, I can confidently say their warm hospitality is also authentic and genuinely Georgian.

Follow Der blaue Fuchs on social media to stay informed on their wine tastings and monthly events!

Interested in exploring Georgian wine? Mosto wine bar is great place to find these rare bottles of natural wine.  The shop is conveniently located right next to Naturales wine bar, mentioned above, and can be visited as part of your wine crawl through Neukölln.

Mosto features natural wines from throughout Europe, including a fantastic selection of boutique Georgian, Spanish, Italian and French producers.  A very cozy atmosphere and friendly, knowledgeable staff make Mosto a must-visit while in Berlin.

While technically a brewery and craft beer bar, Mikkeller Berlin also features great natural wines. Situated in Mitte, an area not known for too many great bars, Mikkeller is a fun place to grab drinks and whatever food they’re serving from their resident pop-up. Upon my last visit, they had a delicious taco shop housed inside their small, well-designed space.

The natural wines and beers change often, and you can even buy bottles and cans to-go. For those looking to compare sour beers to unfiltered low-ABV wines, this is your place.  However, like many things in this area, the prices are a bit high, but the quality is there. Also, you can check out their site for other locations around Europe.

Tuesday – Sunday 3pm – 12am/1am

Just off Charlottenburg’s main shopping drag, you’ll find an unassuming yet super interesting natural wine shop. In particular, Viniculture offers more German natural wines than most shops of similar nature, and the staff is more than happy to explain them all. They also carry a wide range of biodynamic, low-intervention, small producers from across the globe. What’s more important, they have wines at all price points, suitable for any budget.

Highly recommend to stop by when in the area or head to their website to order wine for delivery. Some fantastic German bottles we found include Pfeffingen’s Terra Rosetta, a rare red riesling, and Weissburgunder from Konni & Evi at Buddrus Winery.

Sorsi e Morsi

Italians know how to do wine bars right, even abroad.  Sorsi e Morsi is an authentic Italian wine bar complete with the jovial atmosphere, free aperitivo bites, and genuine hospitality you’d expect in Italy.  This cosy and very popular spot is convenient for a weeknight drink or long weekend night, as it’s just off Prenzlauer Alle, near many metro and tram stops in Prenzlauer Berg.  While not a natural wine bar, they have a wide array of Italian wines, so just ask the owner Johnny for a recommendation and he will cheerfully steer you in the right direction.  Complete with great music, food, and a ton of positive energy, Sori e Morsi is not to be missed while visiting Berlin.

Mid-Upscale Restaurants with Natural Wine

As I mentioned earlier, Berlin is a city of large contrasts. Dining options are no different. In a city with so much cultural diversity, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to type of cuisine. Nearly every imaginable ethnic food can be found within Berlin’s city limits. In recent years, Berlin has also attracted and nurtured some very talented fine dinning chefs.

Many of these restaurants pay great attention to sourcing the best and most sustainable products for their dishes, and similarly their wine selections. While it’s sometimes hard to find inexpensive bottles at some of these restaurants, they are worth a visit for a special occasion or celebration.

Oh, Panama  Potsdamer Str. 91, 10785 Berlin, Germany

Situated just south of Potsdamer Platz, Oh, Panama showcases innovative takes on traditional German dishes in a refined environment with attached cocktail bar. Panama features an à la carte menu along with daily tasting menus and optional wine pairings.  Notably, they boast an interesting wine list with natural bottles from Eastern Europe. Ask their helpful Sommelier for a recommendation and you’ll be taken care of. If you visit in warmer months, be sure to enjoy their quaint courtyard.

Caravaggi Naturwein Bistro Lettestraße 3, 10437 Berlin, Germany

If you’re craving authentic Italian food and excellent natural Italian wines to match, head straight to Caravaggi in Prenzlauer Berg.  Menu items range from many handmade pastas, to seafood, meats and imported cheeses. Their food is organic and carefully sourced, and prices are in-line with the quality and homemade nature of their dishes.
