The Top London Wine Bars For Natural Wine

London is a sprawling international city, serving as a gateway to Europe and all it has to offer. The diversity of London is reflected in its neighborhoods, shops, cuisine and also its drinking culture. While the quintessential British Pub may still reign supreme, especially on Sundays, there are also many historic, natural wine bars to visit and shield you from the omnipresent rain.

Top Things To Do In London

Lady of the Grapes

In the most touristy and upscale Covent Garden neighborhood, you will come across Lady of the Grapes on a beautiful street full of bars and chic places to eat.

Featuring primarily female winemakers, this charming bar also solely focuses on organic, biodynamic and low intervention wines from around the world.  Each wine has been carefully chosen because of its personality and character, with 25 offered by the glass and nearly 200 by the bottle. If hungry, you can pair your wine with snacks or small plates comprised of artisanal products.

The Winemaker's Club

If you are in need of a large place for a group gathering, or you simply want to escape into an authentic wine cellar, stop by The Winemaker’s Club in the Farringdon area.  The unique cellar has been reinvented over the years, but has always remained true to its wine roots for 150 years.

Today, it carries on the tradition as a natural wine bar.  They have many French varietals beyond Bordeaux and Burgundy, as well as a good selection of Spanish wines, Italian, German, Australian and more.  The staff are very knowledgeable and welcoming, and the prices are very reasonable too.  While the original Farringdon location is hard to beat, you can also visit their second bar in Deptford, where you can drink the same great wines.

Passione Vino

Italian wine, just like Italian food, is coveted by many Londoners.  A great place to find small production, organic wines is Passione Vino. Owned and run by Italians, this shop is a beautiful example of Italian design and deep rooted passion for wine.

You can pick up a bottle to go or enjoy it in their intimate barroom in the back.  Conveniently located in the middle of Shoreditch, you can stop by on your way to a dinner party, or on your lunch break. With over 350 labels, you will be sure to find something to your liking. Also a distributor with nationwide delivery, you can order cases for whatever needs you may have.

Terroirs

One of the original bars of the natural wine movement, Terroirs offers a full dining experience as well as a place to try exciting new wines at the bar.  Open since 2008, Terroirs has two floors and two bar areas with plenty of space to host large parties and events.  They feature mainly French, Italian, and Spanish dishes to compliment their over 300 bottle list.  Very close to Trafalgar Square, in Covent Garden, Terroirs is a popular destination for locals and foreign wine lovers.  Open at noon daily, except Sunday, you have no excuse not to visit while in central London.

If heading to South London, you can also find Terroirs in East Dulwich, or their French wine bar and restaurant, Soif, in the Battersea area of Southwest London.

Noble Rot

Noble Rot Bar & Restaurant is an artistic wine magazine that birthed a tremendously successful neighborhood wine bar and restaurant.  Combining beautiful decor, historic architecture and top gastronomy, Noble Rot delivers a great experience across the board. It doesn’t hurt to also be located on one of the most quaint streets in central London’s Holborn area.

After a few years of success as a quarterly wine publication, Noble Rot’s founders decided to extend their love of food, music and wine into a physical space. The award winning, elevated wine restaurant is now the place to enjoy a wonderfully curated list of vintage and low intervention wines alongside French inspired English food.

More Natural Wine Bars in London

Unfortunately, upon my last trip a few recommended bars were closed at the time I was available to visit them.  While I haven’t personally experienced these spots, I have heard great things about them, and therefore wanted to include them here.

40 Maltby Street – A small wine bar from the Gergovie wine importers, featuring their artisanal production natural wines to drink in their hip warehouse space or take home. They also have a curated menu of appetizers and interesting entrées, all sourced sustainably. Residing in South London, not far from the Tower Bridge, you can stop by 40 Maltby before heading to the many nearby breweries.

Weds- Thurs 5:30pm – 10pm, Friday 12:30 – 2:30pm & 5:30pm – 10pm, Saturday 11am – 10pm, Sunday 12pm – 5pm.

The Remedy Wine Bar & Kitchen – As the name implies, this homey and hospitable natural wine bar is dedicated to curing any malady with their boutique, delicious wines made by passionate winemakers. With a great happy hour from 4-6pm daily, as well as Monday night specials, you can drink well at a great price at the Remedy. Even their dinner menu has many enticing options at a cost you can easily swallow.  They even have a sizeable orange wine list, and other rare European bottles to discover.  Follow them on social media for updates on their frequent winemaker events, or just pop in when in the Fitzrovia area.  Remedy will be my first stop when I return to London next!

Mon – Sat 4pm- 12am.
